The eÁFA transition deadline is approaching – get ready with R&R Software’s solution

At the end of this year, businesses will no longer be able to submit VAT returns through Hungary’s ÁNYK form-filing application. According to data from the National Tax and Customs Administration (NAV) reported by Portfolio, almost 99% of domestic VAT returns are still submitted through this channel, while adoption of the web-based and machine-to-machine (M2M) eÁFA services remains low. With just over three months to go, the transition could pose significant implementation and operational challenges for businesses.

An article published by Portfolio on 18 September highlights the need for businesses to prepare for the changes taking effect on 31 December 2026. Preparation may be particularly complex for companies that process large volumes of invoices, operate multiple ERP or invoicing systems, or rely on manual data consolidation and Excel spreadsheets. Establishing data connections, verifying data quality and testing new workflows all take time, making an early start essential.

Businesses need to prepare their data management and financial processes for the changes to VAT reporting. Implementation of R&R Software’s ERP-independent eÁFA solution can begin now. Built around existing business systems, the solution supports a consistent, verifiable VAT filing process and M2M communication with NAV.

A unified eÁFA workflow built around existing business systems

R&R Software’s eÁFA solution establishes two-way data exchange between a company’s ERP and invoicing systems and NAV’s eÁFA service. It brings data from multiple source systems into a single, transparent workflow, supporting the preparation, validation and submission of VAT returns through an M2M connection.

Key capabilities include:

  • importing data in standard CSV and XML formats, as well as company-specific formats;
  • preparing draft corporate VAT returns;
  • reconciling the company’s draft return with data held by NAV;
  • managing VAT return corrections and version history;
  • submitting VAT returns through NAV’s eÁFA M2M interface.

Logged, auditable workflows improve transparency and can reduce the risk of errors arising from manual processing. The ERP-independent approach enables companies to establish their eÁFA processes within their existing IT environment.

Expert IT support throughout the transition

The phase-out of ÁNYK and the mandatory transition to eÁFA will fundamentally change how businesses prepare and submit VAT returns. This goes well beyond a routine software update: it requires substantial changes to the associated tax, accounting and business processes.
