The New York Franz Liszt International Piano Competition will be held in Carnegie Hall from 5th until 9th of October

The purpose of the Piano Competition is to celebrate Liszt and his legacy and make it even more widely known. The opportunity to show their talent to the jury and the general public in Carnegie Hall, creates a special attraction and atmosphere for the contestants. The competition will also be streamed live online, a rare feature for events held at Carnegie Hall. In terms of Hungary, this may be the most important cultural event in New York so far, the recordings of the competition will be available on social media for years.

The founder and artistic director of the New York Franz Liszt International Piano Competition is Ádám György, Franz Liszt prize-winning Steinway artist, permanent jury member of the prestigious Steinway International Piano Competition. His name became known to the world in 2012, when he played Frédéric Chopin’s Eleventh Etude in front of 300 million television viewers at the opening ceremony of the European Football Championship organized jointly by Poland and Ukraine.

Dr. Gábor Farkas and Dr. Steven Spooner, professor of the Johns Hopkins University, are invited to be in the Jury next to Ádám György. Taiwan’s Yi-Chen Feng, Japan’s Eri Yamamoto, New York’s Maxim Lando and Gergely Kovács made it to the finals this year. The four young talents will be accompanied by one of New York’s best symphony orchestras, the Orchestra of St. Luke’s, in the finals.

Ádám György: “With the help of our supporters, the Franz Liszt International Piano Competition in New York has grown into one of the most important piano competitions in the world by 2022. After the pre-selection, our competition invites the four selected young people to the solo and orchestra finals, both events taking place in Carnegie Hall. The Orchestra of St. Luke’s is one of the best ensembles in New York, if not the best, and the live broadcast of the orchestra final will be expected to be followed by millions of viewers all over the world. There has never been a Liszt celebration like this across Hungary’s borders!”

According to Ádám György, the competition not only has four winners in the form of the four finalists, who will get the opportunity of a lifetime to perform in the Great Hall of Carnegie Hall, but the audience will also be enriched with an exceptional artistic experience during the finals, and Hungary will also receive special attention through the art of Franz Liszt in these challenging times. Since 2011, R&R Software Zrt. has been a supporter of the Ádám György Castle Academy, enabling outstanding Hungarian talents to participate in the master courses. We are proud that the pianist Gergely Kovács, a multiple scholarship winner of the Ádám György Castle Academy, is among the finalists of the competition in 2022, and he won 3rd place in the final of the 2021 Ferenc Liszt International Piano Competition held at the Liszt Academy in Budapest.
